Book Review: Lies She Told by Cate Holahan

Book Rating

Book Review

The faithful often find themselves blindsided. They don’t suspect anything because they can’t imagine doing something so awful themselves.

Ok, Lies She Told by Cate Holahan was outstanding. But, I had a hard time getting into this book. I kept putting it down and being like “eh, it’s ok…”. I wasn’t sure I’d finish it, to be honest. Then, a dog I was sitting chewed it up when I ran an errand to the point where the cover was destroyed and every single page was chewed but I could still read it. And I mean barely still read it. So, I took that as a sign that I should finish it. And boy, am I glad I did! After you get into this book, you get into it.

I saw some of the twist at the end coming, but was blown away by the other discoveries you make along the way. Lies She Told is narrated by an author, and laid out to where it’s a chapter of the narrator, and then a chapter of the book she is writing. Liza, the narrator, gets very into her writing. As a result, so did I as a reader. I was just as invested as Beth (her character’s) life as I was in Liza’s. There were parts of the book that I had to remind myself what really happened and what was going on with Beth. I really don’t want to give too much away, but if you’re looking for a book that is a suspense like you’ve never read before, go get this book! And if it takes you a while to get into it, stick with it! You won’t regret it once you reach the end.
